In recent months, the company has released multiple Marvel and Pixar titles on UHD Blu-ray so these are likely to also appear on Disney+ later.ĭisney+ will launch in the US, Canada and Holland on November 12 and in Australia and New Zealand one week later. The Disney+ App on my Apple TV 4K (tvOS 14.4) has just auto-updated to 1.13.1 to support launch of the new Star TV service in the UK next week. Films on Disney Plus are showing as Dolby Atmos but not playing in Dolby Atmos anyone with the same problem.
While Atmos isn’t in every living room, offering full support for it just makes the Chromecast more appealing, and with the huge and compelling library on Disney+ being important to many consumers, everything working fully is crucial. In any case, it’s great to see things working as they’re supposed to.
That update brought with it some miscellaneous fixes for Atmos and Dolby Digital surround sound, so it’s possible that the two updates worked off of each other to get things patched up. With streaming services fragmenting in a big way, EI thought it would be a good idea to create a list of all the home cinema friendly titles that are available on Disney+ offering Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision playback. I know my tv can output Dolby Atmos to my soundbar as it works with my tv's native Netflix app, so why are Disney (and Amazon I believe) NOT supporting it with their Android.
Notably too, though, is a recent Google TV update that rolled out to Chromecast last month. Spoke to a Disney+ rep yesterday and they said that whilst 4K/Dolby Vision is supported on Android TVs, Dolby Atmos is not. The Disney+ app was last updated on March 9, around the time that users started reporting the issue as fixed. It’s unclear where these fixes came from, though. Amazon Prime on Q outputs Atmos and like Netflix and Disney + uses Dolby Digital Plus as the base codec so should be able to carry the Atmos metadata like Prime does. Over the past several days, a thread monitoring Dolby Atmos issues with Disney+ on Chromecast has seen some users reporting that, suddenly, the feature is working! We can’t test this on our end, unfortunately, due to having no Atmos hardware on hand, but quite a few people are reporting the change (via PiunikaWeb) Netflix will never support Atmos because the Q box doesnt have the native Atmos decoding that Netflix requires to support it. Since launch, Disney+ has had issues with Dolby Atmos on Chromecast with Google TV, but recent updates seem to have fixed the problem.
My TV is only capable of HDR10 and HDR10+, but this is not an issue in getting Dolby Atmos from Disney+ on my Apple TV 4K or Shield Pro 2019 so its definitely not an issue with my AVR. The Chromecast with Google TV has proven to be a hit among streamers thanks to wide-ranging support for streaming apps and standards, but Atmos has proven an issue for some. Well, this really makes no sense, unless Disney+ on the Roku requires Dolby Vision in order to get Dolby Atmos.
